PAUL BIRCHELL
Paul has spent over 50 years immersed in the world of canoes and kayaks, paddling across lakes, rivers, and seas both in the UK and abroad, including in Europe and Canada. His passion for the water is matched only by his love for introducing others to the beauty of nature through canoeing.

Introducing

He has joined us for the summer to share his expertise and his love of the water.

Introducing
Nigel
Nigel, as a runner, swimmer and paddler, has spent his life exploring the coastline and estuaries of South Devon and southern Spain. Whether in a canoe, a kayak, or a pair of swimming trunks, Nigel loves sharing his knowledge of the area and guiding people through the areas he loves so much.

Introducing
Darcie
Darcie is particularly keen on anything to do with water and tries to get involved in as many canoe trips as possible. Sometimes, navigating from the prow of the canoe, and sometimes swimming alongside.
In 2022, Paul began guiding with Canoe Tamar, and in 2025, he took the helm as the business owner. He has a particular fondness for the canoe as a comfortable journeying boat, perfect for exploring scenic waterways.
Having lived in the Tamar Valley for over 30 years, Paul has developed a deep knowledge of the area’s flora, fauna, and rich history. He loves sharing this wealth of information with guests, ensuring each trip is not only an adventure but also a chance to connect with the local environment.
